Why You Should Start A Blog | Guest Post By Zainab Chats

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today is a bonus post, since I don’t usually post on Thursdays. However, I was offered the chance to be interviewed for my lovely friend Zainab’s ‘Blogger Confessions’ series. Therefore I thought it was appropriate to share Zainab’s corresponding guest post on the same day. Hope that made sense, it is a little hard to explain! Today Zainab is taking you through Why YOU Should Start A Blog. This seems very appropriate for my Pinterest audience. I am bombarded with DMs on Pinterest daily ‘what advantage is a blog to my business’ ‘how should I start blogging’. To clear up those frequently asked questions, Zainab took it upon herself to write a guest post summarising it all.

If you are interested in beginning a blog, I’m always here to offer assistance. A DM on Instagram is the easiest way to communicate with me. I also have a ‘blog strategy’ section on my website. Need some tips to help grow your blog? Look no further than over there!

This is supposed to be a guest post, so I’ll shut up. Hope you enjoy Zainab’s, quite literal, chats!

Hello, everyone! My name is Zainab, from my blog Zainab Chats! I was so thrilled when Catherine asked my to guest post on her blog, so I thought what better post than telling you why any of you should start a blog! I’ll be going through some post ideas and the best platforms to begin blogging with.

Why Should I Start A Blog?

So one of the questions I get a lot is: why did I start my blog? The answer always is, blogging is a way for me to express myself! It can be a way for you to express yourself too, writing things down always helps me to clear my mind and I know it’s a great stress reliever for other people too! So, if you ever feel stressed, you can write a blog post and that could benefit your mood. Another reason why is the community. I guarantee you, once you start blogging you’re going to see a lot of positive comments or DMs from people saying you’ve inspired them or helped them with something, that’s how lovely the blogging community is and you will meet so many amazing people that can help you with your blog or give you some great opportunities!

Where Do I Start A Blog?

Okay, now that I’ve convinced you to start a blog, let’s get into the fun! How do you start a blog? Well, there are so many blogging platforms to choose from! I started off on Blogger which is free and all you need is your Google Account. While Blogger is great for beginners, as I got more serious about blogging I found that there were many issues: I couldn’t customise how my site looked and as not many people used Blogger, and I never got a comment! So, if you’re looking for somewhere to just put your writing, Blogger is the platform for you.

However, if you’re looking to share your tips with people I would definitely recommend WordPress! WordPress is one of the most popular blogging sites out there, and it really focuses on community. Even if you don’t advertise your blog, people can find it through the WordPress Reader and you can find new blogs to read too. WordPress also offers a free plan for beginners as well as a paid plan if you’re looking to be more serious!

Get Started!

Okay, now that you have decided to make a blog and you chose your platform, get writing! Use your blog to express your ideas, thoughts and feelings! Everyone loves reading new blog content so I can guarantee you will find some loyal readers, so keep persevering and trying to grow your blog.

Thanks so much to Catherine once again for letting me write my guest post! Bye everyone!

That’s it from Zainab today. If you enjoyed, please do continue reading Zainab’s blog for similar content (just click here!). She also owns a stunning Instagram, which I will link here. Zainab never fails to make me smile, and I hope you could see her positive vibe through today’s post.

I’ll see you back again tomorrow with another post!

Why did you start a blog? Who is your biggest blogging inspiration?

Inspiring Bloggers Tag | Social Media, Blogging and Self-Love!

Before we begin, I need to thank the wonderful Pooja for nominating me. She is such a lovely and supportive member of the blogging community, and is constantly engaging with my content! Thank you for making this post possible, because I anticipate it’s going to be a fun one.

Rules

  • Thank the person who chose you.
  • Include the logo in your post.
  • Answer the questions asked to you.
  • Choose the bloggers who’ve inspired you (maximum 10)
  • Add a feature of their blog which you admire.
  • Ask them five questions.

Questions

Do you prefer blogging or social media?

Unfortunately I spend way more time on Instagram than WordPress, however it’s a habit I want to change. Blogging is a more versatile platform and I appreciate it no end! Unlike YouTube, blogging isn’t an over-saturated platform and everyone earns an audience, whether that be big or small. Blogs are so fun to work on and there’s such a range of content, especially on WordPress.

What is your favourite post that you’ve published so far?

This is such a hard question! I love my post where I discussed all things blogging. It was a lengthy one but people seemed to enjoy it. It’s called The Hustler Blogger Award, and I’ve linked it here if you want to read it (please do!)

What is one thing you are grateful for?

One thing? There are so many things to be grateful for. While I’m sat writing, I’m surrounded by my family. I’m so lucky to be with people during lockdown. Despite enjoying my own company very thoroughly, I would go mental without them.

What inspires you to continue blogging?

I’ve got to make the most out of my short time on Earth, and blogging is a perfect way to do so. I find other people and build bonds, discuss controversial topics and expand my brain. It’s like schooling outside of school, and you all know I’m a big fan of learning!

What is one thing you love about yourself?

I don’t know. Right now I’m in an inspirational rut and finding it so hard to commit to school work. What I used to appreciate about myself was my constant commitment to productivity, now that’s non-existent. It’s okay to have bad days, but this is a long string of bad days that I can’t seem to work my way out of. I stick to a routine, I do things I love, but I keep encountering a lack of energy and a desire to just read, blog, repeat. As a perfectionist, I find it hard to commit to work if I know I can’t complete it to my best ability. That’s my hardest fence to climb, but as I previously mentioned, I just don’t have the energy!

*sorry for the abundance of personal pronouns in that paragraph, however you don’t talk back so it’s naturally a very one-sided conversation*

My Nominees

The Cozy Potato – Victoria really deserves to dubbed an inspiring blogger because of the effort she puts into her blog. Alongside a podcast, Victoria posts consistently on her blog. Plus, her Instagram is beautiful which you need to check out!

Simple Little Things – I discovered Ana very recently and she has an awesome blog. Very new to the blogosphere, but already writes with so much experience. On Instagram we have little chats and her commitment to blogging is inspirational.

Zainab Chats – Pooja is to thank for introducing me to Zainab. She hosts an awesome blog with so much precision and planning that I almost think she is inhuman! Love the success she is making for herself through blogging.

Meghan’s Teen Life – Meghan is so lovely! Her kind words make my day and when she pops on her Instagram story to chat – I smile instantly. We’ve recently collaborated so I encourage you to check out that post if you have time. She was so fun to work with, always spreading positivity.

Times Of Trials – Anushka has recently began an Instagram account, which is where I found her blog. It’s such a fun website to read because it’s a real insight into a teen’s mind – which I find endlessly relatable.

I’ve nominated upcoming bloggers who I find genuinely inspiring. Instead of my regular nominee list, I wanted to share a group of bloggers that you need to support! They are all quite small on WordPress now, but with your support can grow. So go and offer them support. All their blogs are linked above.

My Questions

  • What are you grateful for today?
  • What is your experience with Pinterest, has it grown your blog at all?
  • As a content creator, are there any problems you encounter?
  • What songs have you been listening to on repeat?
  • What does your content schedule look like?

Unfortunately we’ve come to the end of today’s post! I hope you enjoyed reading my answers. If I haven’t nominated you, still feel free to complete the tag. Just pingback to this post so that I can see it (copy and paste the link into your post). On the other hand, if I have nominated you don’t feel pressure to complete the tag. It’s all for fun!

Do you prefer blogging or social media?

I would love to write a post about my experience of both, so please do start up a conversation in the comments! Can’t wait to hear from you all.

Happy Friday,

Ideal Inspiration Blogger Award | Life Chats, Self-Love & Getting Out Of A Slump!

Honestly, I’m a little bit drained of energy, Although I am incredibly excited to write this post, my eyes are barely open. I’m sat in a really thick jumper on a summer day, and I’m still cold. I don’t know what is wrong with me! Perhaps it’s because all I’ve eaten today is watermelon and cake mixture… and a cookie… oops? Although my window looks out into the garden so I can see a barbecue being cooked up outside. No meat for me, just a veggie skewer, but exciting all the same.

This morning I woke up at the grand hour of 9:00. That’s very late for me, but it did not deter me from having a good day. I ate watermelon for my breakfast, then baked a cake. I washed up the breakfast dishes, let the bunnies out for a run, then took a ton of bookstagram content. From tomorrow, the first official day of the summer holidays, I am going to be posting on my bookstagram every day. Make sure to check out my account to stay up to date with all of the bookish content!

Following that, I went for a walk with my brother (that autocorrected to bother, which is a little bit hilarious). We had a nice chat while walking in the sunshine! Once I arrived back home, I decorated the cake I had baked previously that morning. Of course I put on an episode of Doctor Who while doing so.

We didn’t have lunch, because we are having a mid-afternoon barbecue. I don’t know why we decided to have it mid-afternoon, but oh well. Hopefully I can eat soon! I’m terribly hungry!

Oh, and then I sat in the sunshine editing the photos I took in the morning. While doing so I listened to Niall Horan. I absolutely LOVE his album Flicker, so it’s been playing on repeat.

That brings us to now, quarter past three in the afternoon where I have decided to write a blog post. I’m really excited to bring you this post, the ‘Ideal Inspiration Blogger Award’. I was kindly nominated by the lovely blogger behind ‘Hiddenzzzzz’. I highly recommend you check out their awesome blog! They are so lovely too. I look forward to answering the questions, so I hope you look forward to reading them!

Stick around until the end to see if you have been nominated. Without any more rambling, let’s get into the post:

Rules

1. Thank the person who have nominated you and provide a link back to his/her blog

2. Answer their questions

3. Nominate up to 9 other bloggers and ask them 5 new questions

4. Notify the nominees by commenting on their blog

5. List the rules and display the “Ideal Inspiration Blogger Award” logo

6. Provide a link to the creator of Ideal Inspiration Blogger Award: Rising Star

Questions

What motivates you to keep growing your blog?

Seeing my impact on other people’s lives inspires me to continue branching out to other creators, therefore growing my blog. ‘The Plastic Plan’ in particular (my climate change series) has gained so many positive responses from young activists like me. Seeing my writing help other people be more environmentally conscious will never fail to inspire me. Because even my small platform of 730 followers can make a difference. That’s a school full of people that want to listen to my ramblings!

These were some initial ideas for The Plastic Plan series!

What message do you want to give to the world?

I wish for my lasting legacy to be kindness. Sometimes, more often that I’d like, I snap at people. I might give up on something too soon because I’m tired of it. I want to build resistance against that, I want to be less selfish and give my time to worthy causes. When I eventually depart from this planet, I hope the small amount of people who did know me remember me as the kind one.

What is your current favourite book?

I can’t answer that question! There are so many current favourites. But also I’ve been in a reading slump which isn’t fun. With the libraries not being open, I haven’t been able to get my hands on any physical books. Although the eBook option is available (which I’m eternally grateful for) they don’t spark the same sort of magic. I’m sure readers will understand what I mean! If you do love reading, you should check out my bookstagram. Cheeky little plug I know! But I post bookish content every day on there.

These are the sorts of photos I post on my bookstagram!

When was the last time you felt uninspired?

Probably last week. I wish I had a better relationship with inspiration. It naturally comes in waves, but those waves differ in size. At the moment I have loads of ideas, but I’m too excited by them that I don’t have the commitment to sit down and properly write them out!

Sneak peek to my August bullet journal set up!

What do you love about yourself?

I love that I don’t care what people think about my blog. Offline, there are bitchy girls that tease me about my blog. But it doesn’t affect me in the slightest. I don’t even know what their aim is, because they would never be able to stop me from blogging. In fact, the more they tease me, the more motivated I am to prove them wrong! I like that part of my personality. I know some people are really sensitive to teasing.

I Nominate

Francine @ Ancine’s Alley

Meg @ What Meg Means

Jessica @ Jessica E Larsen

Pooja @ Life’s Fine Whine

Rachel @ Little World Of Rachel

Everything Me

Victoria @ The Cozy Potato

Anushka @ Times Of Trials

Rose @ Girl Online

My Questions

  1. What book are you reading?
  2. What song/s have you playing on repeat recently?
  3. How do you stay motivated?
  4. What tip would you give to anyone trying to get out of a writing slump?
  5. What is the most valuable piece of advice you have been given?

Right, so that’s it for today’s post! I’m really looking forward to seeing your responses. Don’t forget that if you weren’t nominated you can still take part! Just copy and paste this link into your post so that I can see it. Hope you have liked the rambly posts this week! I will probably go back to a less chatty style on Friday’s upload. Please leave your honest opinion on the long posts this week! I don’t mind receiving your criticism.

What song/s have you been playing on repeat recently?

Stay tuned, because I might react to your favourite songs in a later post!

Answering Your Assumptions! | Collaboration With Meghan’s Teen Life

Welcome to another exciting collaboration! Today’s post came from a late night chat with the wonderful Meghan from Meghan’s Teen Life. Recently, on YouTube, there has been a mass production of assumptions videos. Therefore we decided to hop on this trend and bring it to the blogosphere! The lovely Maryam has previously done a post like this, so please check her’s out too.

Meghan runs a blog where she discusses, and takes us along, with her teen journey. Behind the amazing writing is a lovely human who constantly makes effort to be positive and inspiring. As she is so underrated, I would love for you to support her blog and Instagram. To top it all off she is walking 10,000 steps a day to raise money for Islamic Relief (a charity that supports victims or conflict in Yemen). Please donate here! I am participating alongside her.

Make sure to read Meghan’s half after this one! Here are some assumptions you had about me – when I asked you on Instagram.

You wish you could play more instruments

Unfortunately I’m not very musical, despite playing the cello. It does not come particularly  naturally to me despite how much I enjoy it. Although it would be awesome to play multiple instruments, it takes valuable time that I can’t spare! I would much prefer investing effort into blogging and school, then having cello as a little side-project.

You only have a small group of friends

This is very true! I have a close circle of 5 friends. There are about 20 people I can talk to and get along with in a friendly way, perhaps go for a walk together etc, but my five closest friends are the ones I turn to in times of need. You know who you are 😉

You’re a very organised and tidy person

Externally I appear tidy and organised. However, internally, I’m a mess. Those who say a tidy space makes a tidy mind aren’t exactly honest, because my space is beautifully organised yet my mind is cluttered!

You haven’t told anyone about your blog

This is the opposite of true. It was hard to keep a secret and I prefer to be honest; it brings comfort! Pretty much my entire school year are aware of my blog. My family know I keep a blog, but they do not know how to find it which is relieving.

You love cats

Yes!

You are an extrovert

Company is nice, but I prefer to go solo. Being alone brings internal energy and is usually where I think up my best ideas. On the Myer-Briggs personality test I’m 92% introverted and 8% extroverted! I do think I’m slightly more extroverted that that…

You didn’t reveal your real name on your blog because you were embarrassed people would find out

I use a pen name to set apart my two identities. Catherine is the name I use professionally and around family; Erin is the person I am when I’m productive, stress-free and letting my heart out on to a keyboard. They stay separate just out of choice, but I’m not embarrassed about my blog one bit! I should not shy away from praise for a website I have spent 3 years work on. If someone were to send hate directed at my blog I would be offended, but it wouldn’t stop me from writing. Barriers like that make me try harder to prove them wrong!

You have a boyfriend

Just my bookshelf, I’m afraid. No-one takes interest in a nerdy and peculiar girl like me. Especially since I put so much effort into school but don’t achieve highly. All this work goes toward being mediocre!

You are more of a cat person than a dog person

Nothing against dogs (they can be cute sometimes) but cats are my preference. They’re cuddly, lazy, fluffy and sassy! What more could you want?

You’ve never been abroad

Actually I’m extremely privileged to have been abroad 6 times in my life. Once to America – although I can’t remember it – twice to France, twice to Spain and one trip to Holland! I really want to travel more in the future, however the cost of the environment is worrying.

You prefer countryside to city

Again, this one is so true! The countryside is where I belong. I live semi-rurally and the city life has never been my cup of tea. My dream is to have a house looking onto the sea (by the seafront). If you have seen my brand collaboration with Mapiful, you will know I’m a big fan of Scotland too! I would love to live there in the future.

You blog because you are forced to

In some cases I will force myself to blog, but it’s always a fun process. No-one makes me blog other than internal pressure. I find it a beautiful hobby and want to continue with it for as long as possible!

Thank you for reading! Did you enjoy this post? There’s another half over on Meghan’s blog. Please check it out if you’re interested. Take the time to share love to some small bloggers today; they deserve it. All of her links are below:

Do you have any assumptions about me? Would you like me to do a part two?

Hope you all have amazing days. This post is proof that what you assume about a person is often incorrect. I am guilty of judging a book by its cover, but I try to avoid that mindset. If you have any more assumptions about me I’d love to hear them! I reply to all of your lovely comments. Be juicy and honest, and perhaps your assumption will be featured in part two!

Top 10 Blogging Goals For The Future | Finding Inspiration & Engaging With My Passions

I’ve had a burning desire to get back to the keyboard ever since I announced a ‘break’ last Sunday. Although a break would probably be beneficial for me, my mind is buzzing with ideas and I don’t want this motivation to be wasted. Today I woke up late, around 7:30am, with no spark in my step at all. Instead of yoga I wanted to crack straight on because I was already a little late.

Head over to my Instagram for more cute cat photos like this one!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my cat. However while I was washing my face she decided to walk all over my white sheets with her wet, muddy paws. I returned from the bathroom to see my unmade bed soaked through with a guilty looking cat sat in the middle. She got the sign and decided to leave… sorry Pikachu. Then I washed my sheets and tidied my room a bit. You might say boring. But I have a feeling that if you’ve been reading my blog for this long then you might care about my pets.

Despite such an unplanned morning, my day was awesome. I love every second of it! I also had the idea to start a project… which is coming soon. This inspiration has grabbed hold of me and I don’t want to fight it. Passion is one of those complicated emotions that tires you and excites you all at once.

So, what is this post going to be? I hear you ask.

My list of goals for the future of my blog:

  1. Launch the project!
  2. Spend half an hour catching up on my reader every day.
  3. Follow 10 new blogs a month.
  4. Update my Instagram story consistently!
  5. Post on Instagram to a schedule (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
  6. Get better at promoting my blog though Instagram.
  7. Reply to comments more efficiently.
  8. Enjoy the writing process.
  9. Copy and paste all of my blog posts into a huge Pages document so that when the Internet dies they’ll all be safe (I’ve started on this already)
  10. Write more book reviews

That’s all my blogging goals for now! Don’t want to have an immensely long list otherwise I’ll feel intimidated.

What are your blogging goals? Are there any good blogging habits you have got into?

Loads of love,

erin x
